The Missing Layer

Fifteen prominent AI playbooks and reports map AI strategy and adoption. None includes the human capability development layer needed to sustain the AI transformation for students and the workforce.A new report for higher education and industry from iThrive Learning Architects.

What We Found

Institutions and companies are investing heavily in AI adoption. They are buying tools, writing policies, and building integration plans. To guide that work, leaders turn to the playbooks and reports published by the world's most influential consulting firms, research institutes, and technology companies.

We reviewed fifteen of them. Each one maps AI strategy and adoption. Many name human capabilities as essential. But naming them is where it stops. Not one of these reports includes a layer for developing those capabilities in students, educators, employees, or the people who train them.

That gap has been sitting under the surface for twenty years, demanded by industry and never designed into curriculum or training. AI just raised the ceiling.

One Argument, Two Markets

For Higher Education: Provosts, deans, and faculty leaders will find a clear case for developing AI+Human Capability inside every course, not in a separate course or module.

For industry: CHROs and L&D leaders will see why AI training alone will not sustain transformation, and what the workforce needs alongside it.
